Disabilities

Today in science, my sci. teacher, Ms. Randall, gave my class a pretty long lecture about doing a presentation. While i was listening to her, my head started to drop lower and i started staring at my desk for no reason. I tried to look at her since this presentation was important but my head dropped again and i was looking at my desk again. This really got me mad and ticked off since im forgot everything from that period. Now i realized that this was really becoming a habit.

This got me thinking, what other habits or mental disabilities do i have? All i can list are these: Can't learn stuff by hearing, short attention span, short term memory loss(not sure)/forgettable, shy and many more(i think). Why do i have disabilities? When did i start having these disabilities? Questions clouded my head. Why does God give people disabilities? Is it because we need disabilities to live?

Forced by curiosity, i checked disability on Google. Mostly, it just had lots of handicapped people with a mild disability such as wheelchair people. They were very weird looking and that's when i figured out why. God created us in his own way; each being unique and special in our own way as well. Everyone should know that they have disabilities even if they think they are perfect(arrogance is a disability since arrogance is like being too proud of oneself, i think) and that we should be happy that God made us like this.

P.S., I'm so stupid to not figure that out earlier. If you were lost, my point is everyone has disabilities.

  1. Thanks for your honest sharing, Billy.

True, we're all disable in the sense that we are all fallen short of His glory. We're selfish, mean, greedy, arrogant, boastful...That's why we need Jesus to bear our sins and die on the cross for us, so that we can become clean. But once we have become clean, we need to make every effort (that's our part), with the help of God, to become a new person in Christ so that we can reflect His glory.

REJOICE in the Lord :)that the "disabilities" you mentioned are not permanent, they shouldn't be because they're not from God. But we must learn to take our own responsibilities to have them fixed, with the help of God.

Not sure if you know the cyber world has a huge impact on how you guys are being shaped. No doubt it is a good tool, very convenient, but young people have been shaped to have much shorter attention span, daydream a lot, are more impatient, visual, impulsive, lack of communication, social and interpersonal skills...it is becoming the trend and the norm. Gone are the days without internet when students have to spend hours in the library flipping through index cards, touching, feeling, smelling every pieces...or spending hours to search for an important article that happened to be on a microfiche that has gone missing! I guess I'm old enough to say I've lived in both worlds and witness the difference. =]

True, we cannot change the world, but we need not conform any longer to the pattern of this world.(Rom 12:2) A man reaps what he sows (Gal 6:7), so we must be very careful what kind of seeds we take in.

Remember what "devote" is? It is to discipline our heart, mind and body in conforming to His will. Since it is a "discipline," it requires daily training and practices. As we spend time with God studying His word, we're reprogramming our mind to focus on what we ought to think of...As we share our devo with one another, we're learning to communicate, share and encourage one another...As we put what we learned, received and heard in practices, we're becoming a new person, with new godly behaviors and attitudes. Then you can always look up, rise up and SHINE!

    Hope this helps. God bless.

  2. very nice sharing billy, I am proud of you. This is exactly the essence of what the story my team was telling the kids last night (Fall Carnival). The story is called "You Are Special" and the story is very close to your sharing.

Yes, we may never be the popular stars we see on TV, or the dudes with a muscular body, but God made us this way for a reason - to glorify him with all we have in every single way. In many cases, we only look at what we are short of, but take a step back my friend, we may be week and disabled, but we have a powerful God behind us! He is even more popular and beautiful than any earthly human you can find. :)
